Aircraft

Types Of Aircraft
Aircraft can be booadly classified into the following:

  • Helicopters
  • Twin Pistons
  • Turbo Props
  • Executive Jets
  • Airlines
  • Cargo Aircraft
  • Glider
  • Space Vehicles

Helicopters

A helicopter is one of the most convenient and time saving ways to transfer between the city and the airport. Alternatively an easy way to reach the remote destination.

Twin Pistons

An economical aircraft range suitable for short distance flights. Aircraft seating capacity ranging from 3-8 passengers.

Turbo Props

A wide range of aircraft suitable for short and medium distance flight with a duration up to 2 to 4 hours. Aircraft seating capacity ranges 4 to 70 passengers.

Executive Jets
An executive jet is the most time efficient way to travel suitable for medium or long distance flights. Aircrafts seating capacity ranging from 4 -16 passengers.

Airlines

Large jet aircraft suitable for all kinds of flights. Aircraft seating capacity ranging from 50-400 passengers

Cargo Aircraft

Any type of cargo ranging from short notice flights carrying vital spare parts up to large cargo aircraft through can transport any volume of goods.

Glider

A glider or sail plane is a type of aircraft used in the sport of gliding. They have rigid wings and an under carriage (storage space). Some gliders known as motor gliders are also used for gliding and soaring but have engine which can be extended as a flight for takeoff. Aircraft such as hang gliders are foot launched. Glider aircraft that are used for military purposes do not soar.

Airside management overviews the functions of Runway,Apron and Taxy way,Gate management,Vehicular disciplines and allocation of bays for aircreft in the terminal.

Terminal Management
Terminal management overviews the functions of terminals facilities, such as:
  • Flight Information System
  • Closed Circuit TV
  • Airport house keeping
  • City side management
  • Trolly retrieval
  • Signage posting
  • Lost & Found
Cargo Management

Airport

An Airport is an inter-modal transfer facility between ground and air transportation. An airport combines wide range of facilities and services in order to satisfy all the reasonable requirements of air transport operations.
Airport means a landing and taking off area for aircrafts, usually with runways and aircraft maintanence and passenger facilities.

     Definition(Ashford N Martin,Stanton H P & Mocre C A)
"Airport is a terminal facility that functions as an interface between air and surface vehicles. It is a processing centre providing the necessary facilities for ticketing, documentation and control of passengers and cargo"

UN body for civil aviation, ICAO(International Civil Aviation Organization) defines an airport as "An area on land or water intended to be used either wholly or impart for the arrival, departure of air and surface aircraft"

The basic airport infrastructure consists of
  • Runway
  • Taxi way
  • Apron
  • Gates
  • Pssenger and Freight Terminals
  • Ground transport interchanges

AIRPORT FUNCTIONS

Airport functional activities can be classified into two different groups
  1. Aeronautical Services

                Operational Activities
                Ground Handling Services

     2.  Non-Aeronautical Services

                Comercial Services

       Classification of Airport Functional Activities

The above airport functional activities are managed by various management to meet the needs of the airport users like:
  • Passengers
  • Airlines
  • Exporters
  • Importers
  • Visitors
  • Concessionaries
  • Other agencies operating in the airport

Concept And Types Of Aviation

Concept
While aeronautics is the study of science of flight or aircraft, aviation is the science, buisness or operation related to aircraft.

Types
Aviation can be breadly classified into 3 areas. Namely:
  • Military Aviation
  • Commercial Aviation
  • General Aviation

Military Aviation
The first part of aviation is military aviation. It refers to aircraft flown by the armed forces.
Aircraft have been a major weapon in many wars.

Commercial Aviation
The second part of aviation relates to aviation for commercial purpose.Commercial aviation began in Germany 1910.It provides public air transportation to approximately 500 location throughout  the country to every part of the globe. Commercial aviation may also carry cargo and mail and this is the most common type of aviation.

General Aviation
The third part General aviation is all civil aeronautics with the exception of commercial air transpot operations. This includes sports flying, buisness flying and crop dusting. These aircraft range from gliders, ultra light and micro light aircraft and small two seater single engine.Although General aviation is a vital part of air traffic.

Introduction To Aviation Industry

Aviation provides the only transportation network across the globe and it is crucial for global business development and tourism enrichment. Air transportation is one of the most important services to offer both significant social and economic benefits. By serving tourism and trade, it contributes to economic growth. It also provides jobs and increases tax revenues. Air transportation is essential for the fast movement of people and cargo shipments around the world. Finally, air transportation improves the quality of people’s lives by broadening their leisure and cultural experiences. Aviation industry is a modern mode of transport which started during the early 20th century.

A description of aviation industry includes:
  • Manufacturing Airlines
  • Airport operation
  • Maintenance
  • Air Traffic Control(ATC)
  • Metrological
  • Pilots
This industry means different things to different people. Any how its not only the manufacturing of aircraft, airport operation and aircraft maintenance but it also influences many industries associated with airline travel; such as
  • Hotel and Restaurants
  • International trade with exporters and importers
  • Retail Industries
  • Other business due to air travel
